Hans Klemmer

Hans Klemmer (b. 1958, Chicago IL) is an Elgin-based artist skilled in several different mediums and art forms which include fused glass, sculpture, photography and woodworking. His art can be found in numerous private and public collections around the world.

Hans first began learning fused glass art while working under under Prof. Karl Harron in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He is also proud to have earned his Master of Fine Arts in Photography while studying with Prof. Paul Seawright, PhD. at the University of Ulster.

Fascinated by travel and cultures other than his own, he has visited and photographed in nearly 40 countries and enjoys making work based on specific locations around the world. Hans finds that the themes of history, memory and movement offer boundless inspiration for his multifaceted work. His current working theme “Flow” introduces the idea of how memory changes and abstracts perceived experiences from actual reality over the course of time.

Whether working in glass or in creating live-edged furniture, each piece of work is completely individual and a one of a kind, bespoke piece of original art. He also offers individualized workshops in his glass studio in west suburban Chicago.

Hans received a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from DePaul University and a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Ulster in 2012. He is an enthusiastic and popular teacher, who has taught both photographic processes and glass techniques at various colleges in the Chicago area.
