Classes will be scheduled once a month on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:30 and Saturdays, 2pm-5pm. Beginning on October 16th and October 19th and November 13th and 16th. Classes will resume in January.

Introduction to Glass Fusing

In this workshop you will learn and practice how to design using glass as an artistic medium. We will be working with both transparent and opaline (opaque colored glass).

Design and create two glass coasters.

This workshop will be roughly 3 hours long. At the end of the workshop you will place your coasters into the kiln where the glass will fuse at approximately 1490 degrees Fahrenheit. After they are fired and cooled, you will have the option of returning to do some coldworking (using diamond grinding tools to remove any imperfections in your piece) prior to taking your finished pieces of art home.

About 72 hours after the end of this workshop, students will come back to my studio and pick up their personally designed glass coasters.

This workshop will be roughly 3 hours long. At the end of the workshop we will place your beautiful pieces into the kiln where the glass will fuse at roughly 1490F. After they have fused and cooled completely (24-72 hours after our workshop) you will have the opportunity to return to my studio to add a pin-back for a brooch, or a loop so your new jewelry can be hung on a chain or cord.

After the final adjustments, the students will be able to take home their new pieces of wearable art.

In this workshop you will learn and practice how to design using glass as an artistic medium. We will be working with both transparent and opaline (opaque colored glass).

Design and create your own 8” glass plate.

This workshop will be roughly 3 hours long. At the end of the workshop you will place your plate into the kiln where the glass will fuse at 1490 degrees Fahrenheit. After it’s cooled, it will be reheated and formed into your dish.

You will have the option of returning to do some coldworking (using diamond grinding tools to remove small imperfections in your work) between the initial fusing and final forming of your piece.

After the final firing the students will be able to take home their final piece of art.

About 72 hours after the end of this workshop, students will come back to my studio and pick up their personally designed glass plate.

Individualized Glass Workshop

These workshops are designed for students who have some experience in working with fused glass and would like to explore advanced techniques.

Ideas for individualized workshops might include:

  • Using solid or bottomless molds to create vessels.
  • Larger dishes and bowls.
  • Pate de verre techniques.
  • The use of reactive glass in artistic design.
  • Glass casting.
  • Advanced jewelry design.
  • Mark-making
  • Coldworking glass
  • Or many other techniques that you might be interested in learning.

Depending on the size and scope of your project, a material fee may be added to the hourly fee.

Typically for these workshops I will meet with the student to discuss their project ideas and goals and come up with a plan of action from there. Each of these workshops is completely individualized to the student’s needs and desires.
